Are there already too many flankers and re-releases? Absolutely. Do I still occasionally wish for different or new versions of a fragrance? Yes. Is this the most random and unnecessary list on the site? Arguably. Here are 10 flankers that I would like to see come to fruition one day.
GEO F. TRUMPER SANDALWOOD EDP
Sandalwood Cologne is one of the best, affordable fragrances on the market. I’d argue it is at least as good, if not better, than good batches of Chanel Egoiste. It would make sense for Geo F. Trumper to upscale it to an EDP or Extrait if they would ever want to enter that market. More importantly, I think it’s criminal that they haven’t made a Sandalwood beardoil yet!
AMOUAGE DIA 50
Amouage has released several Exceptional Extraits in recent years, most of which are among the best flankers currently being made (setting the high pricing aside). Epic 56 is my favorite, Reflection 45 and Jubilation 40 are great and even Interlude 53 is my favorite Interlude. Amouage Dia Man is one of the few ‘older’ Amouages that I think deserved a bigger push and performance.
TOMMY HILFIGER TOMMY ELIXIR
The original Tommy (1995) is pure nostalgia. One of the first fragrances I was ever gifted in my teens and even a decade later, I thought it smelled quite pleasant. Cheap and synthetic, surely, but pleasant and crisp. I know that many flankers exist, but while perfumer Alberto Morillas is still busy creating new perfumes, I think a proper quality re-do (or even a niche-clone for another brand, like Parfums de Marly) with amped up performance would make a lot of sense.
PARFUMS DE MARLY HEROD EXCLUSIF
Speaking of Parfums de Marly. I’d expected that the Herod flanker would already be here. Although now, I feel like the ‘Herod hype’ has largely died down. Perhaps, an Exclusif flanker could light that fire again. Personally, I find layering Herod with a coffee fragrance like Akro Awake is amazing, so I vote for a touch of bitter, roasted coffee in the Exclusif.
ERIS VENUS XXX.
Delta Of Venus is a surprisingly mass appealing, safe scent in the Eris collection, but an absolute favorite of mine. My other favorites of the brand are the skankiest ones like Mxxx. & Ma Bete. I think a sexier, sweatier, more animalic musky take on Delta Of Venus would be a cool flanker.
VERSACE THE DREAMER PARFUM
Another nostalgic look back. Versace The Dreamer is a divisive fragrance, also to me. I loathe the opening, which smells of pure nail polish remover to me. But it’s undeniably an interesting, dare I say, niche scent-profile, for little to no money. A higher quality, smoother take on this would serve this fragrance and the people that (used to) appreciate it well.
LES INDEMODABLES ESCALE EN FLORENCE
For years, I’ve been looking for iris beard grooming products, but a true iris cologne would be great as well. Brands that release these types of products tend to cater to a more ‘traditionally masculine’ crowd and iris is not available. Les Indemodables has both a great sparkling iris fragrance in their Iris Perle and their colognes are extremely underrated; I’d love to see a combination.
CHANEL 31 RUE CAMBON PARFUM
Speaking of iris. My favorite Chanel is 31 Rue Cambon and I’m surprised there isn’t a Parfum oil (Extrait) for this one yet. The Parfums by Chanel are very expensive, but lovely; Coromandel being my favorite at the moment and a true upgrade over the EDT/EDP in my opinion. If a 31 Rue Cambon Parfum comes out, I may have to sell a kidney with the quickness.
EIGHT & BOB THE ORIGINAL 2.0
When I think of somewhat popular DNA’s that haven’t been ‘exploited’ yet, one that comes to mind for me first is Eight & Bob’s The Original. I assume that this is by far the brand’s most succesful fragrance and I think it’s a recognizable, mass appealing, versatile blend that could easily be expanded on in the future. Perhaps a more citrussy Summer flanker or leaning into the gourmand trend by doubling down on the nutty quality.
RALPH LAUREN SAFARI
Safari (For Her) is one of my favorite vintages in my collection. Surprisingly, this fragrance is still available in stores, although I can’t vouch for the quality of current batches. Safari For Men also has its fans. Combining the DNA’s for a modernized blend of the men’s aromatics and more fruity women’s chypre could result into something that updates Safari for a new generation.
