‘The most exclusive perfume created by Albert Fouquet exemplifies chic sophistication. Designed for both men and women alike, this classic scent is suitable for a modern-day aristocrat. Rosy notes of Pink Pepper blended with the subtle spice of Cardamom and garnished with the zesty hint of Lemon, evoke a contemporary tone; while notes of Labdanum emit an intricacy reminiscent of the sweet, fruity, woody aromas of twentieth century Paris. Amber and Sandalwood undertones accentuate the warmth of this refined scent.’ – Eight & Bob

The Original or Eight & Bob as it used to be referred to as well, is one of the most underrated fragrances on the market, or at least it’s not talked about enough. Despite being somewhat popular and the star of the Eight & Bob line-up, I feel like it’s underappreciated or overlooked by many a niche enthusiast.

The opening has two facets. One being a clean, fresh linen, laundry detergent scent and the other being a slightly salty sea breeze aquatic scent, with that hidden sweetness. I get a real sense of ambergris in The Original. The aquatic facet being more dominant initially. It’s pleasant, bright and feels well-blended, but not all that exciting.

Then this fragrance starts to become sweeter. There’s vanilla and hazelnut and it creates a praliné, confectionery accord. Somehow both the clean linen and the sea breeze accords are still there and they’re not going anywhere. The aquatic elements take a backseat and the white muskiness and hazelnut somehow work up front.

The Original quite unique and it smells like it’s high quality. One reason that this, interesting clash of notes works so well, is that it’s a subtle performer. It’s one that sits close to the skin and it’s perfect for an office setting, which is where I’ve mostly worn it. Then again, it’s versatile enough for any situation that I can think of. You can find this DNA with more outspoken vibrancy in Xerjoff Im-Perfetto.
