‘This sensuous and rich amber rose opens with a fruity and fragrant bolt of cardamom, bergamot, orange, pine and ginger and melts into a sensual floral heart of rose, jasmine and cognac. The guaic and tonka make the base slightly sweet and resinous blended with fragrant woods and light incense. This is a charming and versatile amber rose. Summanus was the Roman god of Nocturnal Thunder, the Monarch of Night. This scent celebrates Jupiter’s oft forgotten dark twin with its electric lightening bolt of cardamom and black pepper and its moody base.’ – Electimuss
Summanus is very sweet, bordering on cloying, with a really nice smoothness underneath. In the warm weather I tested it in, it’s too much for me, too sweet, but I can appreciate it.
The opening is spicy, but the cardamom doesn’t overpower as much as it often does for me. Pepper is listed as well, but to me there’s a scent of cinnamon and clove here. You instantly get a strong amber accord and woody base. This fragrance has the same regal, dense quality to me as Jupiter and Pomona Vitalis, although I’d prefer both of those over Summanus. This one is probably appealing to people who like Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille or Parfums de Marly Herod, but want something a with more oomph. There’s no tobacco listed, but the sweet, spicy, woody vibe makes it reminiscent of a tobacco scent to me.
There is a hint of acidity throughout (maybe from the rose, which I don’t really identify as such). Electimuss has a way of being too heavy and cloying for my taste, but pulling it back a bit with a long lasting acidity (which especially true for Aquila Absolute). Still Summanus was a bit much; I’d have to try it again in the Winter.
