‘Taking inspiration from the islands of Indonesia, Vetiveria is an ode to the magnificent vetiver plant – a vibrant celebration of nature’s most elegant grass. Rooted in essence of the earth, the fragrance opens with a deluge of boisterous Sicilian lime, invigorated by the lively and aromatic Timur pepper and enhanced by lime, sage and juniper berry. The heart blooms with a striking blend of snowbell and lavender, their softness smoothing the edges of this bold composition. Anchored in a deep, earthy soul, Vetiveria showcases the richness of vetiver intertwined with verdant moss, resinous rockrose and the creamy warmth of tonka bean.’ – Ormonde Jayne
Ormonde Jayne is one of the few houses that does green fragrances to my taste, but as I was expecting, this Vetiveria isn’t really up my alley. Apparently this is similar to the discontinued Zizan, but I don’t remember smelling that one.
There’s a nice density to Vetiveria. Oily, mossy, slightly peppered. However, when you get up close and personal with it, there’s distinct hint of crushed grass in the opening. Sharper, brighter green oily pulp.
However, within minutes it becomes clear that Vetiveria moves into a much more spicy, warm, masculine-leaning direction. Roja Parfums Apex and I would have to agree, this smells very similar to Apex EDP in the drydown. Which means, it’s not really my style. It’s a modernized take on the classic spicy green masculine.
A mix of herbal shampoo, retro Chanel Antaeus-like spices and slightly sweetened fougere base.
It’s well-done, with the typical classy styling and quality that a lot of the Ormonde Jayne’s have and I’d prefer it over Apex, but it’s not a style that I’ll ever get excited for.
