Out of all the One Day fragrances that I’ve tried, this is by far the one that’s the least up my alley as far as scent profile goes. Traditional, green, aromatic, masculine leaning. And therefore, definitely not one of my favorites from the brand, but still an impressive execution of this style.
This is a green forest, but made quite sweet. And it’s not often that green and sweet go well together in my experience, but here, it’s done very well.
Perhaps more importantly, there’s a subtle, but great and distinguishing brighter tinge (ginger) that keeps it from being too earthy and dense. This sliver of light does wonders to the opening of Salm for me.
The sweet forest has a rooty quality and I get tinges of (burnt) cacao throughout. Mostly earthy and woody though. It captures this feeling of almost bubblegummy, sweet resinous tree sap and sweet earthy roots combined.
Parts of it remind me slightly of a DSOL MMXVI Terram or Bon Parfumeur 502 Iris Cartagena, but Salm is much greener. More fougere, more pine, more sharp green edges winning it from the resinous sweetness. It feels traditional, retro. Perhaps, from this era, Les Abstraits Des Cendres would be the best frame of reference; I would definitely recommend Salm to the Des Cendres fans.
