‘Voices coming from the beach are long gone. The Mediterranean welcomes autumn. It is oh so quiet up here. The mood is impossible to put into words. A scent captures it instead. Sweet aromatic notes of dry soil and Mediterranean pines are floating in the air. Warm, woody, silent – a fragrant memory that is here to stay.’ – D:SOL MMXVI

Did someone say chocolate? No, there’s no chocolate in Terram, but I swear by it! To my nose, this is one of the more prominent, actual chocolate scents that I’ve come across; especially in it’s opening. It reminds me in the slightest of Rania J’s T. Habanero, though not nearly as abrasive and without its fecal edge. Terram is comforting to me.

It’s not a full-on gourmand, edible chocolate at all mind you, more so an earthy, dark, powdery one. It is sweet, with its blend of benzoin and labdanum, but there’s a bit of a forest lurking in the back. That being said; Terram feels earthy, but not green to my nose.

There’s a spiciness and almost botanical feeling, yet the notes that I’m usually cautious around (fir, coriander, galbanum) do not seem to influence my enjoyment of this fragrance one bit. It has a rooty quality and I find it quite close to the drydown of the later release by Bon Parfumeur, 502 – Iris Cartagena, with a rooty, carrot iris and gourmand blend.

The scent doesn’t change drastically, but there’s a gradual shift from the earthy chocolate, to a sweet dry woodiness. The cedarwood really starts coming through, with the chocolately patchouli enveloping it throughout the entire wear.

Longevity is solid, but it sits close to the skin. For me, Terram is a personal, intimate scent. Perfect for either close encounters of the romantic kind or for personal enjoyment at home. Marie Le Febvre (Urban Scents) knocked it out of the park with this one. I prefer it over the brand’s other 2020’s releases Herbes and my runner-up Tesoro. The follow-up, Sombra, is a daring work of art, but not one that I could casually wear frequently. Terram is a winner.
