I always appreciate Anselm a lot, as he’s been willing to let me try out new Der Duft releases quite a few times now, knowing that most of the brand’s offerings have not been for me (with Cinematic being my favorite so far). We should celebrate brands and brand owners that allow for different opinions and it just goes to show that Der Duft has had an eccentric, unique and niche approach, which is especially rare at their price point. With Playground the brand definitely takes a step in the more accessible, common direction, which makes this arguably the least interesting Der Duft release, but at the same time, definitely the one that I would most likely wear.

What I get most from Playground is a mix of neon colors, brightness and chlorine-like aquatics. I guess I’d say it’s most closely related to Privilege from the Der Duft siblings. Both capture playful, quirky, freshness.

Quite sharp in the way it delivers the citrussy and floral side. With some green chewy stems (lily-of-the-valley), but neon-yellow edges. This does not register as marine-like to my nose, but fully to clean, soapy, chlorined pool water. The whole fragrance places me poolside on a Spring or Summer day, with a youthful shampoo-ish tinge (although not as much as the fruity shampoo that I get from Privilege).

A fragrance that it reminded me of most/ a lot is Ilya Parfums Heaven’s Tide. Overall, enjoyable and I think a welcome, easier-reach for the Der Duft line-up, albeit far from their most artistic one.
