      PRIVILEGE (2022) • DER DUFT‎🔺, ScentAdvice

Privilege is the new release by Der Duft, executed by Nathalie Feisthauer. To be frank, most of Der Duft’s line (aside from Cinematic) has aligned with my personal taste all the time in the past and Privilege proved to be quite the challenge. That being said, it’s always fun to test them.

Straight from the opening I get a really fresh rhubarb. I can count the times that I loved rhubarb on 1 or 2 fingers, and this take on it was definitely nicer for me than some others, because of how fresh it is. That being said, it’s a very green opening. When smelled up close, I get hints of paprika/bell pepper and especially in the first two hours, it’s greener than I can manage.

Privilege is very liquid; almost watery, but perhaps a tad more of a gel-like consistency. In my mind I kept seeing the inside of a cut open cactus leaf. Think juicy, slightly sweet, slightly aquatic. In the air, I enjoy the fragrance a lot better than close to the skin. The deeper green hues fade in the air and it’s an overall more mineralic, fresher scent.

I could not see myself wearing this fragrance, although I could see it perhaps as a showergel, which Privilege reminds me of a lot. It becomes more neutral and less challenging to the green-shy nose as it dries. Soapy, fruity sea breeze persists and feels rather youthful and playful as it gets sweeter.

Initially I was under the impression that Privilege leaned very far traditionally feminine, but on third wear, I think I may have been wrong and I can see anyone, but mostly younger people wearing this… Ideally younger people from decades past if that makes any sense? It’s either 80’s/90’s or hypermodern, time will tell.

While it gets better for me as time goes by, I can’t pretend that Privilege comes close to what I would wear myself. But if green and fresh fragrances speak to you, definitely check out Privilege, as it’s well-priced and it delivers double on freshness.
