‘Born from the poetic chaos of a Paris laundromat, Love-O-Matic is a scent that captures the beauty of life’s small, cinematic moments. Think clean laundry, strawberry gum, and that electricity of an unexpected connection. Inspired by quiet afternoons spent watching strangers fall in and out of love, this fragrance is a tribute to accidental intimacy and everyday romance. Crafted by perfumer Jérôme Di Marino, Love-O-Matic blends the comforting clarity of clean musks with a cheeky bubblegum twist — for a fragrance that’s both nostalgic and modern, innocent and charged.’ – Room1015
I’ve yet to be impressed by Room1015 and Love-O-Matic isn’t doing much for me either. It’s not an unpleasant fragrance, but perhaps not fully what I was expecting, and for what it is, I’ve smelled better.
When you look at the marketing and description, there’s a mix of clean and bubblegum, but in reality, I find it to lean heavily into the candied bubblegum direction. None of the mintiness of bubblegum (to be fair, they do mention strawberry bubblegum, although I don’t smell strawberry either), but much more of a sweet and sour bubblegum or candy. More importantly, I did not get a strong sense of fresh laundry or white musks here.
It opens with a cleaning-product lemon and candied sweetness, followed by mostly florals. There are no flowers listed in the notes, but to my nose, florals are super prominent here. It has a powdery facet and the whole combination feels a bit 90’s, early 2000’s, kitchy-dated. At best it smells like a spray or detergent to use with the laundry, but not like the cleaned end-result.
I see more of the lemon-tinged sweet bubblegum throughout, but I would much prefer a Teo Cabanel Deja Vu for that aesthetic. Love-O-Matic is okay, but forgettable in my experience.
