Lamar Noir is a complete departure from Lamar (2020), and unfortunately for me, not in the right direction. If you love strong, long-lasting perfumes however, Lamar Noir is one of the biggest performers of the year.
Whereas the original Lamar focused heavily on fruitiness and sweetness, with a (to some) feminine leaning styling, especially for the top notes, Lamar Noir is a full-on, loud, leather fragrance.
Sure, there is still a fruitiness, although I don’t get the pineapple vibe from the original as much here. It’s more non-descript and pretty much instantly overpowered. At first, the leather seemed somewhat pleasant and expected, given the notes and the ‘noir’ flanker idea. However, as times goes by, it becomes clear how much of a harsh, loud, beastmode of a leather this fragrance really is at its heart.
Still sweet, but gone is the Baccarat Rouge-esque sweetness, instead it’s a sweet woody-leather. People have compared it to Maison Crivelli Oud Maracuja; I think the scent is completely different, but I can see why people get the same feeling/vibe from it. I’d say the Kajal is more leathery and less bright up top, making for a really demanding wear for me personally as the hours pass.
A quick shower and 15 hours later and I still get a pretty good sense of Lamar Noir on my wrist, which is not a good thing in my book, but I know that there will be an audience who appreciates it.
