Dolce Amalfi opens with a blast of citrus, but it’s instantly supported by a sort of booziness. Looking at the notes, I don’t know where the booziness comes from, but to me it has a liqueur vibe to me. The citrus itself is bright at first, but it’s also very sweet. This does not smell like a freshly squeezed lemon, but more so a citrus candy. A lot of people get a bubblegum scent as well and I can understand that.
This fragrance does something interesting contrast wise. Although it remains a warm weather scent, with the freshness from the citrus, it adds not only vanilla, but also ‘cold-weather’ spices, mainly clove. I don’t get a lot of incense, which is supposed to be one of the main players, but the spices are unmistakable. The contrast is similar to some apple crumbles; not a warm one, but one with fresh, cold apples. There are actually apples in Dolce Amalfi, but that’s not the fruitiness that I get from it.
After a while, the vanilla becomes pretty dominant and the scent becomes creamier and resinous and at this stage Dolce Amalfi starts to feel like Lira’s little sister. Everything is blended really well, which makes it work. I really like it, although I still think I prefer to have either a more fruity fragrance or a more gourmand sweet fragrance. I prefer Lira, Bouquet Ideale or Dama Bianca, but it’s a solid experience, that I’m sure a lot of people would love.
