Ambre Platine is a must-try for gourmand lovers. Straight from the opening, it’s very sweet. What I get from it most is almonds dipped in caramel, with a serious blast of cinnamon.
The opening minutes are a bit dry, with the cinnamon, pink pepper and some citrus, but this fades away almost instantly. After that you slowly start getting how lactonic this composition is. It rivals some of the more milky scents, but it doesn’t have the condensed milk vibe from a Jousset Gourmand Bakhoor or M.Micallef Gourmet for example. Instead it’s just extremely creamy almond-milk or butter. In fact, it’s the most similar for me to Guerlain’s Tonka Imperiale. I’d dare say Ambre Platine is an upgrade over it.
It strikes a great balance between being very sweet and rather mature to me, because the spices fight back. Some wafts I get more of a classic ambery scent like Grand Soir in this as well. It’s smooth and soft, but not airy, sugary or fleeting; it’s more like a thick, dense paste and that texture really sells Ambre Platine for me.
Lorga has one of the best lines I’ve tried. They’re expensive (€250/65ml at the time of writing), but the brand does a lot to justify it, from the compositions, the quality, it being an extrait, to the presentation. Their signature so far is sweetness, mixed with rich compositions; sweet rose, sweet white floral, sweet leather, but for me this sweet gourmand is the crown jewel. Anno 2024, it may still be my favorite gourmand.
