      x SKINS (2025) • JULIETTE HAS A GUN🔺, ScentAdvice

Juliette Has A Gun has teamed up with retailer Skins for a collaboration. In my opinion this is all about ginger, leading into a sweet base.

The opening hour(s) are quite sharp, acidic. I personally like the tart kick that ginger brings, but roomsprays or even cleaning products did also come to mind. It borders on grating, but manages to stay within the boundaries of pleasant. The scent leans far into the citrus-facet of ginger. That being said, for me there are definitely nicer ginger scents out there (I prefer for example the top notes of Goldfield & Banks Ingenious Ginger). I don’t particularly get lychee on first impression, but more so a floral tinge.

It doesn’t take long for the sweetness to creep in, which is where I think JHAG x Skins excels. As opposed to the often more candied sweetness as found in Ingenous Ginger and worse, the harsher, greener base that follows, here you get a somewhat subtle, but growing chocolate, coconutty, caramel vibe. Almost powdery. For a moment I was reminded of a (much more citrussy) Les Abstraits Belle Ame combination of ginger and cocoa powder.

Mostly tonka probably, which you get in the late drydown (along with a rather generic vanilla overdose), but I do get that half-gourmand, half-sun tan lotion coconut vibe leading up to it. I’m just happy it’s not the astringent greenish amberwoody vibe that seems to have overtaken many a perfume anno 2025.

The ginger has enough lasting power, but ultimately, it goes fully sweet and woody. Not the most interesting base, but pleasant enough. As with a lot of Juliette Has A Gun, I feel like there’s something slightly underwhelming to the overall feeling and perceived quality, but this Skins collaboration is easily one of my favorites from the house so far (and in my opinion the first interesting Skins collaboration so far, as all their previous ones had been Santal 33 inspired to my nose).
