‘THE INSPIRATION: The quest for Tuxedo Extrait de Parfum 66 Patchouli began with an iconic garment: the tuxedo in black. A symbol of masculinity, forever transformed by Yves Saint Laurent into an enduring emblem of feminine power. This fragrance captures the essence of that transformation, the spirit of a disruptive moment in fashion history. The year is 1966. At his Autumn-Winter show, Yves Saint Laurent unveils his most emblematic creation: the first evening pantsuit for women, the tuxedo. A revolution in women’s wardrobes. With a stroke of genius, he reimagines the smoking jacket, once worn by gentlemen in cigar lounges to shield their fine suits from their smoke. He adapts its sharp tailoring to the female form. This rebellious act of creation, unveiled in his signature black, empowers women with a new kind of elegance. Elevating, underlining, and styling their silhouettes as he so desired. Androgynous, rebellious, yet a timeless classic, le smoking has become synonymous with the couturier’s disruptive spirit. His most empowering gift to women, revisited in each of his collections until 2002. It is no mere copy, but a powerful symbol of feminine strength, eternally reborn in Tuxedo Extrait de Parfum 66 Patchouli.
THE OLFACTION: A new dimension of smoky elegance crafted by Perfumer Juliette Karagueuzoglou. Tuxedo Extrait de Parfum opens with the bright spicy notes of pink pepper, enhanced by the exceptional quality of saffron captured in the Ourika Community Gardens and the fresh radiance of bergamot. In the heart, a voluptuous rose is amplified by the depth of leather, complemented by the verdant tones of violet leaf. The base unveils the star of the composition: patchouli. Intensified by the unprecedented (exclusive) “emboisement” process, patchouli oil is macerated with oakwood shavings, sourced from the prestigious French barrel maker Seguin Moreau, located in Cognac. After several days, the solution is filtered and frozen before the alcohol is evaporated, preserving a unique, concentrated blend of the two. This natural maceration, inspired by the time-honored traditions of cognac crafting, amplifies the richness and complexity of the patchouli tenfold, exuding smoky, woody depth and a hint of liquorous warmth. Enhanced by the luxurious comfort of vanilla bean absolute, the final leathery, woody notes create a truly captivating and magnetic trail. The result is an intoxicating scent, both dark and iconic, reflecting the multifaceted nature of its inspiration: the timeless elegance and rebellious spirit of M. Saint Laurent’s tuxedo.’ – YSL
‘The perfume’s leathery inflections are intensified with the magnetic facets of patchouli-oakwood emboisement. A technique inspired by prestigious spiritis craftsmanship. This natural, tailor-made maceration amplifies the olfactive richness of the base notes tenfold.’ – Juliette Karagueuzoglou
