‘Discover the nocturnal side of The Musc Extrait de Parfum by Essential. It reveals itself as a more intimate, veiled version of the original fragrance. Velvety, sultry, and sensual, a composition that reveals itself in the dark. The intensity is doubled compared to the original, reflecting the rhythm of the night: soft, familiar, and seductively deep.’ – Skins (translated)

Whereas I was positively surprised by Bois Imperial Extrait and completely dissappointed by Nice Bergamote Extrait, The Musc Extrait falls inbetween. Actually, leaning towards far towards the more positive side.
This is an interesting deviation from the musk theme. Perhaps not in a style that I would casually wear often, but I like the boldness of this direction.
The Musc Extrait reads like a very retro amber accord for most of the wear. Opening with a musky, slightly nutty clean side. Think Eight & Bob The Original minus the aquatic tinge. Quickly however, this starts to turn more spicy and sweet. I’m surprised incense isn’t listed in the notes; it grows into a frankincense fragrance on my skin. Semi-sweet (not gourmand at all), slightly tart. Dry, but at the same time almost sparkling, fizzy, with hints of cola spices and woods.
It reminds me of vintage bandaid-amber and civet animalic scents. Rather tame, but with a tiny bit of animalic purr and definitely a fun ‘nocturnal’ take on the original The Musc. Thumbs up for me.
