‘ROSE ABSOLUE builds on the rich Rose Flash from Tauerville, reimagined with touch greater depth, and a hint of added richness. It reflects Andy Tauer’s deep love for rose and his passion for creating expressive, long-lasting fragrances. The scent opens with a bright flash of gourmand fruity berries, citrus, and soft spices. The rose shows its uber rich presence right from the beginning. It blooms into a velvety heart of luxurious rose absolute, and settles into a warm, embracing base of amber, woods, and resins. Familiar, yet fuller. A rose with presence; it is bold, elegant, and unmistakably Tauer.’ – Tauer
With Vanilla Absolue easily being one of my favorite releases of the year, the expectations for Rose Absolue were high (perhaps too high). It’s a great rose scent, but not the type of rose scent that I was hoping for.
It’s pretty soliflore, in that it doesn’t have the massive distractions or darker woodiness from an Oud Satin Mood or a Dior Oud Ispahan, but it is equally bold, loud and in-your-face. From start to finish, this is a super jammy, fruity, vibrant rose that feels thick and almost sticky.
Which, at first, I quite liked. I personally would’ve liked a fresher rose, but for what it is, it’s high quality and there’s something admirable about how vibrant this rose projects. It has a hint of red wine aesthetics, like a Liquide Imaginaires Dom Rosa, but on steroids.
As it dries down, it inevatably grows sweeter and there comes a point in the wear that it borders on being cloying, in the way a Terenzi, Xerjoff of Sospiro may be. It’s just a bit too much and too sweet, which ultimately makes the overall experience a solid, but not great one for me.
