‘Nothing screams luxury like purple. A hint of Veridian, gentle notes of Ambertonic and Ambermor, and a few drops of magic. We’re opening a pop-up store at Liberty London on May 6th (2025) to celebrate the launch of this exclusive collaboration. PURPLE combines a sense of history with modern perfumery to create a purely molecular experience. This special edition marks Liberty London’s 150th anniversary, blending tradition with innovation in every spray. It starts with a hint of Veridian™ also known as violet, referring to the authentic purple color of Liberty, in a transparent and airy way. It develops with long-lasting amber notes like Ambertonic™ andAmbermor™ that boost this skin scent even more. It’sa molecular perfume that blends perfectly with every skin in its own way. ‘ – Fugazzi

The first hour or two of Purple are probably my favorite out of any Fugazzi to date. Unfortunately, the drydown doesn’t hold up nearly as well to my taste, but overall, this a solid offering from the house.

Purple is supposed to be centered around veridian a.k.a. violet, but to my nose, this is almost a full-on iris-woody fragrance. I can’t say that I smell a lot of violet here, at least, not in the way that I know violet. Even for an iris, it’s much more on the woody side, than the floral side.

It reminds me of woodshavings turned into a slightly sweetened, mushy pulp with distinct hint of carrot iris. Sweet in a woody manner, not in a gourmand manner (it’s not as sweet as most honey-like iris-woods such as Atelier des Ors Iris Fauve, so perhaps its the veridian that keeps it more vegetal. It stays quite straight-forward and it wouldn’t be my favorite iris-wood by any means, but as an avid iris lover, I like it better than the other fragrances that Fugazzi has available.

As mentioned, this doesn’t fully hold up for me. After a while, the inevitable amberwoody drydown takes over and it’s basically a much harsher, less pleasant, cheaper smelling version of the first hour(s). I’ve mentioned this perceived lack of quality in the base in other recent Fugazzi reviews (Magic Mango, Passionfroudh); I’d say it’s less obvious here, but I still find that it drags the overall experience down.
