‘A delicate fragrance rooted in a lush floral bouquet. The word ‘Proem’ refers to a preface to a book or speech, and this Eau de Parfum from U Beauty sets the stage for your day with a fresh start and a positive mindset. Created by expert perfumers Roger Schmid and Jérôme Epinette, it is layered with floral and fruity notes, subtly interrupted by hints of pink peppercorn for a spicy finish – a scent you’ll be excited to spritz the moment you wake up.’ – Harrods

I only had a rub-on, magazine-style sample of Proem, which I think, doesn’t translate fully like an atomizer would, but here’s a quick first impression.

Proem is U Beauty’s first foray into fragrances (I received some of their skincare in PR and it’s excellent). Proem plays it safe, with a familiar and popular scent profile; fruity rose, warm, elegant. Closely related to Parfums de Marly Delina, but I felt it was a tad fruitier; like Delina with a hint of Oud Satin Mood‘s lychee opening. I was also reminded of Commodity’s Juice.

You get that tartness from the lychee, rhubarb. I personally didn’t get any pistachio from the sample. The florals are the star though, they last well after the fruitiness and while clearly a ‘rosy’ scent, it has that warmer, softer tinge that I more often get from magnolia. I didn’t get a pronounced jasmine or white florals on skin upon first wear; fully pink-red rosy flower petals.

I like it; not too sweet, not too tart. It has an elegancy to it; giving me the same aesthetic feeling as a Chanel No. 1 or some of the Dior Prive like Rouge Trafalgar. Overall, nothing new, let alone groundbreaking here, but it seems solidly made.
