Pour Rever opens with an instantly likeable chocolate. Quite prominent, in-your-face chocolate; some nutty qualities, but definitely more of a straight up chocolate, reminding me of rather dark chocolate syrup you put on ice cream, more than a praline or milky light chocolate.
The booziness kicks in and it makes for a wear that largely reminds me of a (simplified) Guerlain Gourmand Coquin (now Feve Gourmande). It lacks the contrast and floral aspect, making for a more one-dimensional, albeit very pleasant wear.
One of the better cacao notes I’ve smelled in a while (based of a first impression, French Cowboy Mezcal Chocolat may be an exception that spoke to me more). Definitely a step up from almost any trendy, contemporary gourmand that mistakes sugar, vanilla or harsh amberwoodiness for chocolate after the first 5 minutes. Here, the chocolate stays lingering, becoming more powdery, but it’s one of the few releases that carries the actual scent of chocolate all the way through to the proper drydown.
Not as overbearing as some boozy-sweet scents, which tend to grow nauseating after a while on my skin. Yet, I do miss a bit of levity; I much prefer Gourmand Coquin for example, but this is an excellent option for what it is.
