‘I think pistachio is an elegant nut. Also a fun nut. It’s around good climes and everyone seems to dig it. We made this on a whim; a fragrance with no story that just evokes the fun of pistachio (especially as a dessert flavor). It was a STUDIO JUICE (limited edition of 100 bottles). People went nuts for the concept (pun somewhat intended) and we knew we had to add it to the line. It’s dank & unabashedly sweet which is something I don’t normally do.’ – D.S. & Durga

      Pistachio (2022) • D.S. & DURGA🔺, ScentAdvice

Pistachio seems to be one of those ‘hyped’ notes recently, even though it’s not really one I’m particularly interested in. In the case of DS & Durga’s take on it, it’s not at all what I expected.

Despite being very sweet in its own way and having vanilla cream listed, I’d be hard pressed to call this a gourmand. In my opinion, this wore as a harsh, green and woody scent with a lot of the ‘roasted’ facet standing out.

It’s definitely nutty at first, but I wouldn’t call it the main feature and it has a type of sweetness that I didn’t love. It’s almost chocolately and it’s very sweet, but at the same time it’s… soapy? It reminds me of the sweetness from Zara Intense Dark Exclusive or Kilian Intoxicated, but greener.

Overall, the scent that this reminds me of the most is probably D:SOL MMXVI Terram, but unfortunately, I like Pistachio significantly less.

You get the earthy, kind of raw woodiness from patchouli throughout. After the opening this felt like a very long lasting, very linear overly sweet (and synthetic sweet) smelling patchouli fragrance. I knew instantly that this wasn’t going to be one for me and the full wearing didn’t do anything to change that thought.

Sidenote: I have a feeling that a lot of people were left unsatisfied with Kayali’s latest trend-machine Yum Pistachio Gelato| 33, but I honestly don’t think that DS & Durga’s Pistachio will appeal to that crowd either.
