‘Facing the Indian Ocean, the island of Sumba located near the island of Komodo, in the province of the Lesser Sunda Islands, has been known for centuries as the island of sandalwood. The island is home to one of Indonesia’s most beautiful breeds of horse: the Sumba, also known as the Sandalwood Pony. At dawn or sunset, beyond the lush vegetation of the frangipani-lined Indonesian jungle, the beach at Nihiwatu becomes the playground of the Sumba horses. At the end of their wild runs they love to cool off in the water and under the effect of the swell, their hooves leave the ground, they then begin to swim in the ocean offering mankind a timeless spectacle. Litchee, Frangipani flower, Sandalwood, Sap & Wood, Ecume (seafoam) de Cheval (literally “horse foam” means “horse sweat perspiration”), a slightly animalic, salty and horse’s mane like note.’ – Phaedon Paris
