The island is home to one of Indonesia’s most beautiful breeds of horse: the Sumba, also known as the Sandalwood Pony. At dawn or sunset, beyond the lush vegetation of the frangipani-lined Indonesian jungle, the beach at Nihiwatu becomes the playground of the Sumba horses. At the end of their wild runs they love to cool off in the water and under the effect of the swell, their hooves leave the ground, they then begin to swim in the ocean offering mankind a timeless spectacle.
