In my first impressions I mentioned that Palls Athene is to women’s designer releases, what Triumph Of Bacchus is to sweet tobacco fragrances. It’s bold, with great performance and a vanilla-heavy drydown.
Straight from the opening, I mostly get fruits; something akin to a not-overly acidic grapefruit stands out. There is a non-distinct floral tinge as well as a pretty strong vanillic sweetness straight away. All of these give it a similar DNA to some crowd-pleasing staples. One that came to my mind a bit was Chanel Coco Mademoiselle for example. Pallas Athene is generally easy going and mass appealing, but it has a sharper, piercing and slightly greener touch hidden underneath it.
As it dries down more it becomes a very cozy wear, with the vanilla being used in here being the star of the composition for me. Most of this scent (fruity, floral, sweet) feels nondescript and blended into one accord; I don’t get much connection to real world natural scents, but it smells good.
While being quite the playful and joyful scent, I feel there is something in Pallas Athene that adds some weight and maturity as well. I would definitely prefer this on women and I wouldn’t think twice about recommending it. I can see this fragrance being a huge success in that demographic. As mentioned, I enjoy wearing Pallas Athene plenty, so men should of course give it a try as well, but it may not be as obvious of a match.
