      OSMANTHUS ABSOLU (2026) • ESSENTIAL PARFUMS🔺, ScentAdvice

Made in collaboration with Skins. Release date: March 20, 2026.
‘Osmanthus Absolu Eau de Parfum by Skins x Essential Parfums was created in collaboration with Essential Parfums and perfumer Mathieu Nardin. A modern interpretation of the classic tea accord, where freshness, fruitiness and subtle depth come together on the skin. Inspired by osmanthus, a flower used for centuries in China to flavour tea, the fragrance opens fresh with bergamot and cardamom. In the heart, osmanthus and smoky black tea provide texture and tension, with a subtle leathery touch. Cedarwood and vanilla give a warm, elegant finish that stays close to the skin. Osmanthus Absolu consists of 88 per cent ingredients of natural origin and is built around MANE’s exceptional raw materials, including Black Tea Pure Jungle Essence™️ and upcycled cedarwood.’ – Essential Parfums

Osmanthus is one of the more interesting ingredients in perfumery. I actually never smelled the real life equivalent, but I have the raw ingredient in two variations, which have shaped my expectations for osmanthus in perfumes.

And a lot of the time, especially in more mainstream releases, the end result doesn’t come anywhere near my expecations (one of the best ones for me is Perris Absolue D’Osmanthe). See, the raw ingredient can be quite raunchy. It has a mild fruitiness, but it’s leathery, resinous, even animalic leaning. Something that is usually brushed over when presented in these perfumes.

With that as context, I was very curious to see how a usually inoffensive and mainstream-priced brand like Essential Parfums would go about it. And my first reaction was… ‘awh, they went super safe’. However, as some minutes passed, more and more of what I know to be osmanthus came to the forefront and I ended up being more impressed.

The opening eases you in. A lot of watery, clean, musky tea vibes. Like warm citrussy, some florals. A generic tea-ish scent, with faint hints of peach, but especially a lot of vanilla straight away, which you would expect to be this prominent only later into the wear.

Overall, it’s not as peachy-fruity as a lof of the ‘safe’ osmanthus scents, but it does have a touch of the more acrid, almost sour-tobacco scent when smelled up close. The more I homed in on that, the more I found a hint of the daring qualities that osmanthus possesses underneath the surface of this seemingly basic fragrance.

Ultimately, I wish it leaned even more into that dirty-sour side, but the more common tea-suede (cashmeran?) core does overtake it. Once the acidity vanishes, there’s not that much of interest for me here anymore.

Taking into account the Essential Parfums positioning and price point though, I think this is a solid release, that I’ll be trying again.
