This is a really underrated gem. Not only is it favorite osmanthus fragrance so far (topping Parfums de Marly Herod and Carner Sandor 70’s) and my favorite from Perris Monte Carlo. It has been comfortably in my top 10 overall fragrances in 2020-2022, with a top 20 spot in 2023.
I’ve always loved this type of scent, but most of the osmanthus fragrances are a bit too fruity and light for my taste. That’s not the case with Absolue D’Osmanthe as it adds a rougher leathery tinge and a hint of animalics. It still has a strong peachy scent, that’s becoming almost milky and creamy during the wear, almost similar to the way a good ylang ylang or frangipani from an artisinal brand can get texture-wise.
The leathery, animalic and smoky touches make this a deceivingly heavier scent that it may initially appear. I think it’s pretty versatile, but I’ve oversprayed this in high heat before and I do feel Spring, Autumn and maybe even Winter are perfect settings for Absolue D’Osmanthe.
