In 2023 Scents of Wood launched an NFT subscription. Subscribers receive 4 NFT fragrances in the following years
Whereas NFT1 is one of my all-time favorite fragrances and NFT2 was not really my thing, NFT3 falls right in between. With this NFT project, subscription holders get to vote between 3 different samples; in the case of NFT3 I did vote on this specific one (Patchouli & Liqueur de Poire), but I wasn’t the biggest fan of it. Due to the perfumer Julien Rasquinet leaving IFF, I believe there were some reformulations with this final version and I have to say, I like it a bit more upon wearing it now.
This is a boozy, fruity, warm spicy scent; very much in the vain of some Kilian’s or Soradora Jany, but with a slightly more watery, fresher pear liqueur. The carroty nature of iris definitely comes through in the mid as well, but ultimately, everything is engulved in the sweet patchouli-ambery base.
There aren’t really any spices listed as far as the notes go (the notes above were the ones from the original sample, perhaps they changed), but to my nose, it’s clearly spicy throughout, with peppers, maybe some nutmeg, and especially cloves. The clove (eugenol), booziness and sweetness all pull it in a familiar, sweet tobacco-ish direction for me.
In the opening, I get more of a suede leather, but that too, gets lost in the sweeter, earthier woody drydown. Almost going into Xerjoff Iommi territory.
A pleasant scent, but bordering on overbearing. Not to the extend of a Kilian Smoking Hot, as NFT3 is not harsh or screechy, but there’s something in this DNA that I get tired of after a while.
