I noted in my first impressions of the brand that there seems to be a clear split in this brand’s line between Middle Eastern style perfumes and European designer-style perfumes. Dhai is one of the few that I tried that seems to be a mix of the two.
At first, I figured that Dhai wouldn’t be up my alley style-wise, but it grew on my with every wear and I ended up enjoying it quite a bit.
From the first spray you get a lot of fruitiness and freshness. It’s aromatic, but almost aquatic (in a showergel, Acqua di Gio way), yet within minutes it becomes very sweet. It has lavender that jumps out at me, and a general fruity and mossy vibe; I don’t really pick up on the specific fruits that are listed.
To my own surprise, it’s the sweetness that I like most about Dhai. It’s vanillic, but it feels like a slightly skanky vanilla, like a much sweeter Nicolai New York Intense (especially with the mossy fresh vibe). The sweetness reminds me more of the sweetness you can get in oud fragrances, giving this, otherwise fresh designer-style scent, a Middle Eastern twist to my nose. I’m not sure if this is intented, but I do enjoy it and I’m glad that it’s not your average vanilla or sugary DNA.
It took me two tries to start enjoying Dhai, probably because it’s not a style I often gravitate towards, both with the fruitiness and the designer-styling. At the same time, I now feel this is a solid and mass appealing (for men mostly) fragrance and actually one of the best ones I’ve smelled from Anfas so far. The presentation is top-notch and performance is good too, however, the pricing is still very steep for the scent in my opinion.
