‘Love can come in many forms, whether that be friendship, familial or romantic love. Whichever form of love we consider, one thing is certain; it is complicated. This complexity is mirrored in the highly detailed and nuanced facets found in the fragrance, Cupid’s Kiss. From the uplifting delicacy of the pink pepper beginning, to the smooth comfort of the orris heart, through to the sophisticated suede elements in the base, one thing is sure: Cupid’s Kiss is a fragrance befitting that most timeless of human endeavours, love.’ – Electimuss
Cupid’s Kiss is one of the spiciest fragrances that I’ve tried in a while. Which is interesting, since it followed the much-less spicy Spice D’Arno. In general, I don’t get the concept here, nor do I think the brand’s description of ‘smooth comfort’ comes close to my experience. The overall result is solid though.
People have been comparing this to Dior Homme Parfum (2014), but I don’t agree. It’s much spicier, less floral, less leathery. The only overlap is that they’re both potentially ‘masculine leaning’ with dryness and iris.
The opening is full of pepper. The immortelle adds a cumin-esque tinge as well and the while I do get the iris from early on, it’s much sharper and peppery for quite a long time.
Eventually, it grows a bit sweeter, earthier, but still dry and still spicy. What changes most is that there’s a creamy, mushy consistency that comes through. Less sharp spices, but more like… a thick creamy pepper steak sauce.
Not quite what I anticipated and definitely not my favorite Electimuss, but a bold fragrance in an unexpected style that’s worth a try.
