‘Brownie Pop captures the essence of a fudgy brownie topped with caramelized popcorn. Imagine yourself in a light-filled kitchen, where the rich aroma of caramelized brown sugar fills the air. The fragrance opens with the comforting sweetness of a soft, still-warm brownie, with chocolate chips gently melting on your tongue. Then, a swirl of caramelized popcorn joins the party, crunchy and sweet, adding a funfair note to this indulgent treat. Finally, creamy sandalwood and vanilla wrap it all up in a comforting warmth, like a sweet hug.’ – Maison Mataha
So far I’ve been less than impressed with this brand and frankly, with Brownie Pop, I still feel like you’re getting a fragrance that completely smells like a €20 body mist, but at least this one hits the mark more for me when it comes to the scent.
The opening is a really pleasant mix of nuts and chocolate. There have been a lot of roasted, popcorn-ish fragrances in recent years, but to my surprise, I got more of a hazelnutty, praline vibe from this, which I could appreciate. It doesn’t feel as ‘roasted’ or heavy, or even fatty as some of those types of fragrances. Not quite as chocolately or nice as the opening of Chabaud Lait Et Chocolate, which fully smells like Nutella, but an airy, more perfume-y version of it and both only truly shine in the opening minutes.
That airy, transparent texture took some getting used to and does give this fragrance a cheaper, more simplistic feeling, but I didn’t mind it. It sort of works with the nuttiness. Unfortunately, the chocolate fades completely in a short time and you’re left with a rather generic, but still pleasant sweet, nutty wood. The woods again, feeling a bit airy, bareboned; like a mix of sugar, vanilla and cardboard.
Performance seems underwhelming, with only a faint vanilla skin scent left after the first hours, but it did wear a bit nicer and seems to last a bit longer on me than Evasion Bonbon did, as I wore them side-by-side.
After trying four of the Maison Mataha it’s safe to say that this brand does absolutely nothing for me in terms of quality or being a respectable €190-a-bottle niche perfume brand, but Brownie Pop is one that I wouldn’t mind smelling.
