Battaille was the most interesting Bastille. It’s a rather confusing composition to my nose, which was intriguing to sample, but ultimately not my favorite experience either.
It’s sharp and strong from the opening, probably the strongest of the Bastille line. It’s aromatic and zingy; I can imagine the pepper and ginger to be strongly represented in the top notes. On one hand it feels a bit like an aftershave. The saffron smells reminiscent of Nishane Nefs in this composition to me.
As it dries more sweetness comes through and you get this, in my mind, conflicting aromatic cologne-style scent, mixed with a powdery sweetness. I’ve worn this one on skin only once, and I can see maybe adjusting to it more with multiple wearings, but for now I’ll say it’s a interesting one, but clearly my least favorite from the brand.
