Siam1928 Yodbeer
What I get from Yodbeer is citrussy banana pudding, blending into sweet liquorice. A fun, gourmand-leaning scent that I’ve never encountered before, with a suprisingly addictive quality to it, albeit (as with most of this list), not a fragrance that I would want to wear too often.
Stora Skuggan Hexensalbe
Not as daring or dark as one might presume, but definitely as interesting. Earthy, but at the same time sweet and resinous. A lot of sweet liquorice, with aromatic tinges. Quite dark and earthy, but with an unusual smoothness.
Bastille 14 Juillet [#AD]
This one has a lot of sweetness (a pretty common vanillic amber) with a smoky edge and a burnt, Rice Krispies gourmand side that combines into something akin to a roasted coffee scent to my nose, but mixed with some citrus and unripe subtle fruitiness.
Gallivant Accra
I was debating between Accra & Nida for this list, as both are quite unique. Accra is one of the fragrances that develops most during the wear; going from a herbal steam bath, to burnt spices, to leather, to sweetness with a hint of carrot.
Jijide Dentro
Already featured in the recent 15 Figs list, but I couldn’t leave it off here. Dentro is a strange mix, especially in the opening. Dry roasted coffee, sharp green fig and shoe-polish leather osmanthus.
Superfumista Poivre Rubis
Poivre Rubis reminds me of slick, vibrant, shiny fruity and vegetable (skins); chili pepper, paprika, rhubarb, tomato leaf came to mind. All while peppery, but not as dry as most spicy/peppery scents.
Strangers Parfumerie Sweet Muskmelon
It wouldn’t be hard making a list of 10 unique Strangers Parfumerie fragrances alone. Sweet Muskmelon is not a favorite of mine per se, but it works better than it should. It essentially smells of milky caramelized melon.
Zoologist Sacred Scarab
Many would argue that Zoologist has lost more and more of its daring or eccentric edge as a brand; which is partially the case, but not always. Sacred Scarab is one of the newer (2022) intriguing ones. Super aldehydic white linen, sharp acidity, fruity wine, honey.
Woha Parfums Calahorra
A tale of two scents to me: A sweet green (basil, tomato leaf) vibe (not listed notes), but mostly a spicy, earthy, savoury one. It’s sweet, spicy, forest-y which is already a lot, but it adds a ripe fruit juice. And it works.
Versatile Paris God Bless Cola [#AD]
This one blends the acidity of cola with the sweet, roasted, gourmand of popcorn. Honestly, it doesn’t fully work for me and I think it works better as a popcorn scent, than as a cola scent. But a fun one nonetheless. It would be remiss of me not to mention Versatile’s La Fonecedalle as well, which combines weed, beer and chicken…
