I hadn’t smelled a Widian in quite a while, before sampling Yasat, but I generally liked this house and Yasat is another stellar release.
Cardamom is heaving a moment in 2023-2024 and one of the main things to take away from Yasat, is that, yes, it does end up smelling similar to BDK Gris Charnel. However, I find especially the first hour(s) to be more sophisticated and perhaps more traditionally masculine leaning.
It has the sharpness of cardamom, with the ‘wetness’ and tinge of an aftershave, that gets sweeter as it dries, moving more into Gris Charnel territory the sweeter it gets. It wears mature and very nice, not as sharp or loud as many cardamom-heavy openings have been in my recent testing.
After the opening, the sweetness starts to come through pretty strongly and it feels like a good combination. It’s not too dry; more like spicy sugar water and it still has a faint hint of a ‘men’s cologne’ on my skin.
One of the best renditions of the sweet-cardamom ‘trend’.
