Wood Neroli was a pleasant surprise for me. One day, I was in a store to return the nice, but plagued by weak performance, Jean Paul Gaultier Le Beau, expecting to take a Dior Homme or something back home. Now I am not a fan of green fragrances at all, and Wood Neroli looks quite green from the presentation, so when I decided to give it a quick spray, I didn’t have high hopes. Besides, Neroli is often plagued by weak performance as well and at the reasonable prices Wood Neroli was going for, I was expecting this to fade within no time.
My initial response was that it smelled great. It’s quite basic up front, with a bright, almost soapy fresh neroli. Wood Neroli has a bit more to offer though, with a nice woody backdrop that ended up carrying the bright citrussy scent up top for a decent longevity.
Wood Neroli lists leather, ambergris and an amber accord. All things that I honestly can’t say that I detect, but that’s kind of a bonus in this case. It’s a well-rounded, smooth composition, but it remains really bright. This is one of the few fragrances that I have, that I can wear in the highest of heat or when I plan on sweating a lot.
It’s one of my favorite designer releases that came out since I entered this hobby and I really think Bvlgari and Alberto Morillas knocked it out of the park with this one (and I wasn’t a fan of Wood Essence). I think this is better than any of the cheap neroli’s that are most talked about, but I also think it’s better than for example Tom Ford Neroli Portofino, without breaking the bank.
