Where to start… I expected this to be a pretty common, nice, but boring scent profile based on its name. Not sure why my skepticism, because in my experience Ormonde Jayne delivers really great fragrances (even if not all are to my taste). And I was wrong indeed; Vanille D’Iris is unlike anything I’ve smelled before.
This is not your average sweet powdery iris. It’s there, to be sure. But straight away you get a lot of the carrot and a spiced citrus. What really sets Vanille D’Iris apart is the osmanthus, giving the composition a peachy tinge straight from the opening. It creates this almost balmy, candle-like peachy and jasmine scent to the iris.
As mentioned, it’s unlike any iris I’ve come across. You get a hint of green, a hint of citrus, a hint of clean jasmine and peach and of course quite some vanilla. The vanilla is also clean, if that makes any sense.
It’s dry, powdery, but also kind of peppery. Clean, but warm. I actually wish the jasmine and peachy scent from the osmanthus were more prominent after the opening to really set it apart, but this is still a high level iris that can be matched up against the best that Chanel for example has to offer in my opinion. I had 31 Rue Cambon on my wishlist/future purchase list, but Vanille D’Iris could give it a run for its money; I’m not sure yet.
