LAYOUT CHANGES
• The homepage on desktop is wider than before, but still relatively narrow; I don’t like the cramped feeling when the content takes up the whole page.

• To make better use of the real estate on the homepage, I’m more often combining fragrances under 1 post. For example, the 3 new Guerlain Perle fragrances are combined in 1 post, which then redirects you to the individual posts. This way I can showcase all 3, without using up 3 slots in the HIGHLIGHTS. Bigger releases like those, will still be listed individually in the ALL NEW RELEASES page, but for less popular brands, I will do the same there.
UPDATE (MARCH 2026), ScentAdvice

• The highlights more often include redirects to external stores (this is the best way to generate revenue through commissions). I used to temporary link away from ScentAdvice, and then revert those posts back to normal after they had left the homepage. Recently, I’ve started making duplicate posts for releases that may lead to potential earnings, so that I don’t have to come back to change them. Meaning that there’s a regular post with all the info in the database, via the search bar & sometimes in the all new releases list, while there’s a different post redirecting to place to purchase it directly in the HIGHLIGHTS. These redirects are geo-targetted, meaning that a fragrance launched at Ulta, may redirect there directly for visitors from the United States, while other visitors see the regular post.

• NEW RELEASES is now titled ALL NEW RELEASES in the menu and on the homepage, to make the distinction a bit clearer. This is the page where you get the complete overview of all the new releases in (mostly) chronological order.

Giveaways have their own page in the menu now. You can view previous giveaways and the most recent (usually still active) giveaway is listed first.

• Images in the fragrance posts are now always squared and the same size, where before they sometimes had different ratios to match the source images.

UPGRADES & MAINTENANCE
• I’ve been working with my hosting provider to tackle CPU usage. In recent months, the website sometimes became slow during peak times, because towards the end of the day, I’d used up my allocated CPU minutes. Part of this is due to growing visitor numbers, but a big part of this has to do with spam/bot/crawlers constantly trying to access the site. For now, the implemented fixes seem to have lowered the load enough, but I’ll upgrade my current hosting plan when needed. The ‘real’ upgrade is $600 a month, which is a lot for how little benefits I get from it. So in the meantime I’m looking into moving ScentAdvice to private/dedicated servers and learn how to manage those myself (or hire someone to do it). I plan to be completely self-hosted in 2027.

• In part to prevent the bot ‘attacks’, more anti-spam measures have been taken. If you experience issues with browsing the site or leaving comments, please let me know via admin@scentadvice.com or @ScentAdvice on Instagram; regular users should never have to deal with CATPCHA’s or other forms of limitations while using ScentAdvice.

• The newsletter plugin and add-ons for that have been added.

• The image gallery plugin was upgraded.

• @ScentAdvice on Instagram has a Verified subscription, mainly so that duplicate/scam accounts that keep appearing when doing giveaways can be removed quicker (Verified gives access to priority support).
