HIGHLIGHTS & NEW RELEASES
There are now separate pages for highlights and new releases! I used to manually change the order from time to time or not include smaller releases, so that the most relevant ones wouldn’t get buried so fast. Now, Highlights will be that more curated page; focusing on bigger, more popular releases, as well as some notable new reviews, lists & updates like these. This will be most visible on the homepage. Now, New Releases offers the more complete overview, including news from smaller, lesser known brands, in more chronological order of adding them.
Both pages can be visited from the menu & the homepage. There is a link on the Highlights page to visit all New Releases directly from there as well. I may experiment with changing the names or how the highlights are presented (perhaps only having highlights on the homepage, instead of it being a complete separate feed with multiple pages to scroll through), but either way, I think having both is a welcome addition. Both for casual visitors, who may not want to browse through a sea of more obscure releases, and for daily visitors that don’t want to miss anything that’s been added.
REVIEWS
Many new notable releases were reviewed this month: Parfums de Marly Castley, Maison Francis Kurkdjian Kurky, BDK Impadia, Ella K Amber K, Juliette Has A Gun Miami Shake, Marc-Antoine Barrois Aldebaran, Fugazzi Magic Mango, Penhaligon’s Fortuitous Finley, Amouage Decision, Le Labo Eucalyptus 20 & Maison Crivelli Safran Secret for example.
Review coming soon: Roja Parfums Isola Verde, Xerjoff x Duran Duran NeoRio & Black Moonlight, The House Of Oud L’Explicite, Maison Mataha Printemps Blanc & Escapade Gourmande, Amouage Purpose 50, Carner La Playa, Widian Rose Arabia Melogold samples are on their way.
LISTS
About once a year, I thoroughly go through my own collection to revise and reflect on my 50 favorite fragrances that I own. This year’s list crowned a new #1. You can check out the list here. I also shared 50 leather recommendations. I’ll add another themed list soon and be more active in adding new lists than I have in the past year.
SOCIAL MEDIA
The recently added @NewBeautyLaunches page for beauty and skincare news was banned by Instagram after posting a Chanel product. There’s no replacement yet; I’ll think about it.
For those interested, I’ve started (re)posting on my @BrainFragrances feed again, sharing throwback photo’s from my old @Nose.Knows.No.Knows account (which was banned, possibly also due to Chanel some years ago).
Occasionally, I’ll upload basic screen-recordings to YouTube, mainly to draw a new audience in, it won’t add value to visitors of the website or app.
BRANDS ADDED
JAR, twentysecondofmay, Oscar de la Renta, Spoturno, Shakira, Eisenberg, Empreinte D’Effluves, Barnella, Artbrut, Yzkine, Aholic, Noise, Organ Tale, Phil Julian, El Ganso, Reims, Voyager (by Siam1928), Shaman Perfumery, Perfumer’s Journey, Eau de Boujee, Barbour.
MONETIZATION
Reminder: ScentAdvice is funded solely through commissions. There are no paid ads or articles, pop-ups or random, moving ads on the site and this will remain this way. There is an unobtrusive ad banner on the top of the pages and there often is a link to purchase a fragrance or brand that you’re looking at in the post. Both are hand-picked and in matching style and color of the site.
A good chunk of the commissions that I made in the past months were from beauty products, so it’s definitely appreciated when you think of using ScentAdvice as an extra step for those types of purchases as well. I’ve not been doing a great job keeping the discount codes up to date, but it’s hard to keep up with expiration dates, minimum order amounts, different countries, exceptions etc. You can always Google for other codes. You still support if you click through to your site of choice via ScentAdvice; you don’t have to use any of the codes provided here in order for it to bring in potential commissions.
The way to support ScentAdvice is by using it as stepping stone for your next or structural purchases. On the Where to Buy? page, many popular shopping destinations are linked; Sephora, Harrods, Ulta, Selfridges, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, BeautyTheShop, CultBeauty, Notino, Douglas, IciParis, Nocibe, Amazon, FragranceNet, FragranceX, Harvey Nichols, JomaShop, LookFantastic, Macy’s, Walmart to name a few. Going to those sites through Scentadvice, is what keeps the site running and growing, by just doing your regular shopping.
