My favorite from The Different Company based on first impressions was Une Nuit Magnetique. Now I have a mini of it in my collection it’s about time to share my thoughts on it.
It’s absolutely stunning straight from the get go. You get a smooth, subtle plum scent. It’s not harsh at all, but more like you covered your skin in a silky oil. It’s fruity and sweet, but done in an understated mature way.
When I close my eyes, I picture a rich, deep liquid, but still slightly transparent. It has some spiciness and after a while the tuberose pushes through alongside the plummy scent, yet there remains a hint of a brighter acidity (I think the comparisons that people have made to fine wines in this regard are correct).
On the day of writing this review I wore Xerjoff 40 Knots before wearing Une Nuit Magnetique and to my surprise I found that the rose in it comes across quite similar (also making me think of Dior Ambre Nuit or even Gris Dior).
As it dries it gets warmer and sweeter, but the subtle performance makes it so that you don’t get a long ambery drydown; it retains most of the opening scent and then fades off.
It’s often compared to Tom Ford Plum Japonais (probably because that’s the most known plum scent to most people); they share a similarity, but from my memory Une Nuit Magnetique has more of a floral rose and traditionally feminine leaning tinge.
