I’ve been meaning to get to my samples from The Zoo for a while now. I haven’t tried much of Laudamiel’s work (although I do want Melt My Heart from the Strangelove NYC collection), but I always respect his opinions and de-smoke-and-mirror attempts regarding the fragrance industry.
Tuberose is a note that I’ve grown to love more and more over the years. Maybe it wasn’t the wisest choice to have Hiram Green’s opulent tuberose beast Moon Bloom as my first conscious attempt at tuberose, so it took me a while to adjust.
Since then, I’ve had many a tuberose pleasantly surprise me, with Malle’s Carnal Flower being the pinnacle for me. On first impression, Tubereuse Organique could trail it as a second; I liked this more than I thought I would.
I find it hard to place this tuberose on a scale of tuberose-ness (fresh, green, bubblegum, indolic, meaty); I would say this is rather middle of the pack, with more sweetness surrounding it.
This could just as well have been an ambrette fragrance, because there’s a warm, sweet, slightly spiciness, on top of a somewhat retro mossy base.
Yes, it’s fresh, green, aromatic, but dare I say there’s a lactonic, sun tan lotion element to my nose (in the way fig scents sometimes have). That’s the general vibe I’m getting from Tubereuse Organique on first impression; a sweetened, but green aromatic lotion or body milk, on top of a mossy base. And it smells absolutely lovely.
