Triumph Of Bacchus is my favorite from the original releases by Argos, by a large margin.
Truth be told, the opening can be a bit rough on the nose. It suffers to lesser extent from the same issues as the headache-inducing Mancera Red Tobacco, which it’s often compared to. Luckily, the Argos isn’t quite as grating, but the first half hour is rather pungent with a loud projection and sharpness coming from the apple tobacco combination.
Where this fragrances shines is absolutely in the drydown. It’s as if it goes from dry to wet tobacco and most importantly, the vanilla steals the show. Triumph Of Bacchus is one of those fragrances that has gotten significantly better and smoother after macerating further on the shelf at home for a year. The vanilla is way more prominent than it used to be to my nose and that does the composition a lot of good.
It has been in my rotation as a great tobacco scent, but a notch under my absolute favorites like Herod and Enigma Pour Homme. The Argos however, blows those out of the water as far as performance goes.
