It’s always fun sampling a fragrance without knowing any of the notes or even a general description (and potentially ruining what little credibility I have to begin with by sharing my impressions). In an ideal world, all testing should start like this though, as most reviews (including some of my own) just seem to parrot others or at least are led on by note breakdowns that steer our perception strongly (the notes have been added above since, but the review has not been altered).
Torino has been a pretty popular line from Xerjoff, with Torino21 being the clear standout to me. The awaited Torino24 was announced at TFWA Cannes… What does it bring to the collection?
To me this opens with the zesty citrus top, but it morphs into different fruitiness. It’s a similar mix of traditionally masculine tones and more feminine leaning tones, the way Torino23 was and the more feminine leaning side overtakes after a while.
I can picture peach for example. After the first minutes, mostly a dry fruitiness, like peach or nectarine skin. It’s sharp, almost bitter or even a touch indolic (from a floral, like jasmine?), kind of like a hairspray. For a moment, it felt like much less juicy take on Eris Delta Of Venus, before Torino24 becomes something definitively sweeter and drier.
I prefer the opening. The sweetness that comes is not in a creamy, gourmand, or straight-forward vanilla fashion. I get an almost bitter, powdery, unnatural smelling sweetness. The subtle fruitiness sticks around for a very respectable time and it’s a welcome facet. I feel like Torino24 wants to be lactonic, but it doesn’t come out on my skin and instead it remains dry, sharp and tart. In a way, almost refreshing for a sweet scent.
After a while, I was reminded of Amouage Love Delight, although that’s sweeter and I definitely prefer Torino24 over it. Another reference that came to mind is the smoother Beso Beach Beso de Sol. Out of the Torino line-up, this may resonate most with the people that enjoyed the sweet Torino22 or Torino23, but it shares less of a vibe with Torino and Torino21 (which definitely remain the two I prefer from the collection, potentially followed by this Torino24).
Take all of that with a grain of salt, as I’ve worn it once and I’ll come back to add the notes when they’re announced, so we can see how far off I am.
