THE BEST FRAGRANCES I SOLD (AND WHY), ScentAdvice
I often get questions about buying and selling fragrances. My vision is to have a curated collection. Not only do I have more fragrances than I can wear (my permanent collection is around a 100 bottles currently), I get new fragrances in constantly and sample pretty much daily. I openly trade, giveaway or sell them in order to keep my collection tidy and to be able to afford the fragrances that are must-haves for me (it also covers costs for the website, giveaways, sampling, equipment etc.). So I’ve gotten rid of many fragrances in the past years and I rarely get attached to them, but here are 8 fragrances that could’ve or should’ve still been in my collection if things went differently.

Parfums de Marly Layton Exclusif
I must start here. This was my first ever niche fragrance, which is why I should’ve kept it more than anything. I wore it a lot in my early days in this hobby, so I got a bit bored with it. I was selling off multiple bottles and a friend asked me specifically for this one, so I let it go. I find it too expensive to reacquire, but I probably should’ve kept it at the time. Still the best from the house alongside Herod for me.

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver EDP
Another one of my earlier fragrances since starting this hobby and I really enjoyed it as an office fragrance. I got rid of it in swap I believe, because at the time I’d replaced it with the stronger Amouroud Lunar Vetiver. However, looking back, I prefer the Tom Ford and it’s one that I’ll likely have back in my collection at some point.

Frederic Malle Dries van Noten
Not only is this a Malle that I quite enjoy; I bought and sold it right around the time that it was discontinued. I actually bought it at half price, because the store was phasing it out. It wasn’t everything I wished for it (not as complex and it smells like a cookie), so I won’t chase it, but I wouldn’t mind having it back one day regardless.

Hiram Green Voyage 2019
Arguably one of my dumbest sells. I think I needed some money to justify other purchases at the time. A limited/numbered edition fragrance that has since sold out. I sold it because I rarely wore it, but it was one of those ‘once a year it’s special’ wears. Might still be the best Hiram Green release for me. I’ll live without it.

THE BEST FRAGRANCES I SOLD (AND WHY), ScentAdviceRoja Parfums De La Nuit 1
The reason for selling this is simple; I wanted to raise money for a fragrance-related trip and PDLN1 retailed for €1300, so this was the fastest way to achieve it. I can’t say I regret it given the price (I got the bottle prior as PR), it’s hard to justify that kind of money for any fragrance. I sold it for a more than fair price to a friend of mine. It is one of my absolute favorites from Roja nonetheless, probably only bested by Enigma Pour Homme.

Maison Crivelli Iris Malikhan
This was another PR bottle and frankly, I don’t know why I let it go. It’s the only one on the list that I really don’t have an explanation for. My favorite Crivelli (now tied with Oud Maracuja) and a unique iris, which is my favorite note. I must’ve kept a tight ship with keeping my collection somewhat manageable that month. I don’t have plans to reacquire it as of now, but it’s a sell that I still think about from time to time.

Benigna Premier Amour
Now we’re getting into a different territory. This is one of two fragrances on this list that I let go for ‘personal reasons’. I love this Cecile Zarokian creation, but I’ve had some less than favorable communications with the brand. This was a PR bottle with €200 in tax that wasn’t recouped as promised. I usually pay taxes myself mind you, but in this case I wasn’t willing to pay this much for a brand that I didn’t know and I made this clear upfront. To add insult to injury, the bottle/sprayer didn’t arrive in a good condition and it had leaked a bit. I wore it a couple of times and loved the scent, but sold the bottle to recoup the taxes myself.

THE BEST FRAGRANCES I SOLD (AND WHY), ScentAdvice

Nishane Nefs
The other fragrance that I sold because of my ‘entanglement’ with a brand. Nefs is a real masterpiece and up there with Ani as the best Nishane. I’d just acquired it, when Nishane approached me to send me their latest release (I believe Mana at the time). Unfortunately, they demanded to keep it a secret (hidden/illegal advertising), so I refused to cooperate and they in turn wouldn’t collaborate on those terms. Because of the ordeal, I didn’t feel like showcasing this Nefs to my following anymore, so I sold it at a bargain price to a lucky buyer.
