Tar is an interesting one (as I think many of Miguel Matos’ works seem to be). It’s a style I have smelled before, but besides those few instances, I have a hard time describing it.
The opening reminds me somewhat of Matiere Premiere Encens Suave. It’s a semi-sweet, smokiness, but it’s not gourmand and not warm. Tar lists liquorice (root) and that’s what it reminds me of the most, but I can definitely get some of the clove.
I get more of a colder, incense/church like smokiness than a tobacco in Tar. As it dries, it warms up a bit, and you get warm spicy, almost deer musk-esque vibe. It’s comforting, but definitely comes across as melancholic for me. I did enjoy trying this one a lot.
