Tabac Rose may have been the first BDK that I really liked and revisiting it now in 2023, I still think it’s among their better releases. I have somewhat fallen out of love with this particular style of rose, but Tabac Rose remains a beauty.

It’s quite the combination; very rose-forward, but also fruity (plum) and very sweet. I don’t get the tobacco initially, but a huge dose of sweetness. It reminds me a (very tiny) bit of the resinous chocolate from Les Indemodables Vanille Havane.

There is enough levity and brightness to counter the sweetness. Moreover, there is a tinge that I can’t really describe or place. I guess I would call it medicinal? The type of medicinal tinge that honey can give off permeates this opening slowly. I guess you could also call it a ‘cough syrup’ vibe, as this fragrance gets more syrupy, with the plum and rose mix.

Very sweet leaning, more labdanum and gourmand than tobacco to my nose. Almost fully gourmand (including overriding the medicinal tinge) in the drydown, but it doesn’t forgo the rose altogether.

Great release with good performance on my skin as well.
