Rose has been one of my favorite notes and Superose is a welcome and refreshing addition. It is released as a store exclusive to Harrods.
Superose is rather unique, yet versatile, which is a sweet spot that’s hard to come by. It opens really fruity and fresh. Before I knew the notes, I instantly picked up on the pear, which is very prominent. It’s aided by lychee, mandarin and peach, which sounds like it may lean traditionally feminine, but I think it’s as unisex as it gets here.
The second thing that stands out aside from the rose is saffron. This is not a spicy saffron rose, but a soapy one with the fruits backing it up and a sugary blast. While it’s cotton candy sweet (and that can be very tricky for my taste), Superose somehow isn’t as cloying as even Oud Satin Mood for example, because of the freshness of the fruits.
I love the texture; it’s very watery and crisp. Sweet enough for the colder weather, but at the same time bright enough for warm weather, making this a fragrance that I will probably wear quite a lot and one of the few fruity ones that I fully love.
Superose doesn’t smell particularly natural to me, not in a ‘cheap ingredient way’, but more so that it comes across as a more abstract take on rose and also a very contemporary one.
I’ve tried L’Orchestre Rose Trombone, which is also done by Amelie Bourgeois and it pairs rose with pear as well, but I can’t recall from memory how similar they are. Otherwise, I can’t say I have a reference rose in mind when I smell Superose.
This was one of those ‘love at first sniffs’ for me and it will have a fixed place in my collection. For now, I can definitely recommend anyone with the possibility to visit Harrods to get their nose on this one.
