After trying Headspace Santal, which was a big love for me, I had to dive into more of this brand.
I was a bit weary about styrax, because of the namesake note. And while I enjoy Styrax to some extend, I ended up being correct in being weary (for my taste).
This opens rather similar to me than Headspace Santal and Myrrh, styling-wise (despite being a different perfumer). There’s a similar, sweet, warm, wood-shavings element here and the melancholic vibes from myrrh I can picture as well. However, the styrax is as often, relentless.
I enjoy the scent; sweet, thick, warm. A bit smoky. To me, it smells like a wood work shop, with shavings, slightly burned from the machinery. From what I know, this smells similar to pure styrax (not to be confused with benzoin as they are sometimes used (incorrectly) interchangeably).
Styrax is super dense, almost nutty and ever so slightly skanky throughout the drydown. As mentioned, I do enjoy the smell, but after the first hour it becomes quite linear to me and it lasts forever. This is a 12 hour or more wear on my skin and I was over it before the scent was over.
