‘Not the most exciting from the house, but arguably the one that I would wear most’ was my conclusion when I first wore Sol Salgado last year, and I can still stand by that. It may even be my favorite. Easily, one of the more versatile and most pleasant warm weather scents to have on your radar, here’s why:

Especially when compared to Raw Gold (even more so the original version), Grand Beau or Fuego Futuro, Sol Salgado is a more mass appealing and familiar scent profile from Thomas de Monaco. It’s a beachy, sun-tan-esque floral with a lot of vanilla. Basically, the perfect vanilla for a Summer day.

With its mineralic qualities and subtle mix of tropical and greener florals (mimosa, lindenblossom), it mentally puts me on a seaside, with a soft sea breeze bringing in a slightly salted air. Yet, the vanilla is also pretty prominent from the opening. I find the saltiness understated and get more of a watery, dewy floral throughout.

The sweetness is mild; it’s not a gourmand vanilla, but a tame one that has a clean side. Heliotrope probably adds to this and the more I smell Sol Salgado (especially up close), the more I notice how much of a clean musk fragrance this is.

Not as floral heavy as Roja Parfums Isola Sol and perhaps also more subtle and musky than Guerlain Bosca Vanilla, which it reminded me of most. Sol Salgado is my preferred option between them.

Definitely a highlight from Thomas de Monaco to me. Not the most eccentric, but that means you can’t go wrong with it either.
