‘In Ana Mendieta’s Silueta series, we witness not herself but space where she once was and is no longer. In the imagery, what’s left is a trace of where she once was, but she’s disappeared. Silueta is a perfume about absence, an impressionistic interpretation in scent of the means by which Ana Mendieta’s Silueta Series of super 8 films and portraits document sites within nature of her own, private rituals of embedding herself into the landscape—places where her body was once but is no longer.
