‘our bond will…silencethesea (Silence The Sea)
silencethesea captures the intimacy of the lover’s gaze: soundless, eternal, profound. The pure ambergris in silencethesea is the foundation for an arousing, animalic fragrance distilled from marine mysteries and subterranean depths. This provocative formula achieves its leathery edge by incorporating black oud and blue chamomile; gentle notes of natural narcissus, tuberose absolute, and mimosa place silencethesea in a class by itself. Musk, white truffle and purifying angelica further invigorate this daring fragrance. Wearing silencethesea is a modern olfactory adventure like none other, provoking a deeply primal, hypnotic effect.’ – StrangeLove
I think this is the most challenging and likely my least favorite from Strangelove. Aquatics are my least favorite style of fragrances and the combination of marine qualities and animalic daring facets is a recipe for disaster in that regards.
That’s not to say that there aren’t parts of this fragrance that I can appreciate. There’s a lovely depth and creaminess to the textures. The floral facets are quite pronounced and overall, this is not just a dark or heavy fragrance. It’s like a creamy soft floral bouquet with a disturbing wave underneath.
The creaminess isn’t like a lactonic, sweet one, but more a mushroomy one and there’s a bitter quality to Silencethesea. A hint of smokiness. It comes across almost vegetal overall; greener and yellower, than blue aquatic.
I could never see myself wearing this or enjoying it on others, aside for from reviewing purposes.
