‘The light emanating from a full moon and everything that comes to life beneath it. On a midsummer night or a freezing winter, it doesn’t matter. What matters is the emotion that comes from it. One night we found ourselves wandering under the bright light of the full moon and, stopping to contemplate it, I felt like smelling an aroma of forests and flowers…’ – Gian Luca Perris
Shining Moon is quite a beautiful release; more understated than I’m used to from Perris fragrances.
To my nose, this has a very rooty woody core. There’s no irris or carrot seed listed, but I would have guessed it was here. A ton of cedarwood is prominent. Clean, non-green, non-earthy cedarwood.
Very soft in wearing. If you like the type of iso-e-super skin scents as Escentric Molecules Molecule 01, this feels like a more full-bodied version of those.
I’m happy that this doesn’t introduce much sweetness in a vanillic way, however there is an ambroxan-esque sweetness in the drydown to my nose. Overall, very few distractions for me on first wear. There’s a floral air, but none of the floral notes specifically stand out to me. It’s just a cozy, airy, rooty wood with a hint of sweetness.
A comforting release that may not be eccentric enough to write home about, but that I’d happily wear to any type of occasion. As much as I enjoy it, I have to say it does feel very simple and sparse for a Perris or any fragrance at niche prices.
