Shanghai was the Contes de Parfums that I had the highest expectations for given its notes. It’s definitely not the type of scent that I was expecting. There is a strong bitterness here as far as the tea goes. It’s combined with a fruitiness that I just don’t like; I do not know how pear smells in real life, but whatever combination is used in Shanghai smells like rooty, more vegetal handsoap or room spray to me. There is a brightness, but it’s bitter and screechy. Not completely unpleasant mind you, as it does add a somewhat unique type of freshness and wearing it in high heat seemed appropriate. It captures the brand’s description of ‘crisp’ very well.
